Insurance covers my daughters medical formula but doesn’t cover her medical foods. If my daughters medical foods were covered it would help us out tremendously! Insurance believes it is not a necessity to cover medical food. Medical food is a huge necessity because the amount of protein my daughter can have daily is very low. Besides fruit and very few vegetables almost everything else is high in protein. When you have a very picky 3 year old child with msud it makes it very very difficult to find things she can and actually will eat. Thankfully there are places that make and sell medical food but it’s very expensive. I am a single mother of 3 children. I work 6 days a week. Even with working, and my daughter’s SSI after paying bills, child care, living expenses etc. I’m still struggling to buy her all the food she needs. She’s only 3. As she grows older her appetite will grow as well making it harder for me to feed my daughter. Medical food coverage would make a world of difference for my daughter and our family! Thank you!

The Medical Nutrition Equity Act will provide key support for those Americans who rely on medical foods to survive and thrive.
